Namibia

Namibia is located in the south west of Africa. It is a large, mainly arid country, sharing borders with Angola to the north, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the south and, in the Caprivi Strip, a narrow panhandle of Namibian territory jutting from the northeast corner of the country, with Zambia and Zimbabwe. Namibia is known for its contrasting landscapes. The desolate Namib Desert is said to be the oldest in the world, with its high dunes and awe-inspiring sense of space. To the west is 1280 km of some of the most desolate and lonely coastline in the world with the port of Walvis Bay, situated roughly halfway down Namibia’s coast.  In the interior, the escarpment of a north–south plateau slopes away to the east and north into the vast Kalahari Desert. In the far northwest, the 66,000 km² Kaokoland Mountain Range runs along the coast, while further inland lies the Etosha Pan which is surrounded by grasslands and bush, which supports thousands upon thousands of wildlife.

Namibia’s |Ai-|Ais Hot Springs Game Park joins up with South Africa’s Richtersveld National Park. The famed Fish River Canyon forms part of the Ai-Ais Transfronteir Park.

The Fish River Canyon:
At 650 kms, The Fish River Canyon is the longest river in Namibia, with its source in the eastern Naukluft Mountains, this river meanders south-west of the Ai-Ais into the Oranje River.      Impressive and exquisite, this is one of Namibia’s most favourite hiking spots.

"Ai-Ais" means "burning water". Thermal water rich in sulphates and fluorides and with a temperature of approx 60°C, gushes forth from the springs of Ai-Ais .

Namib Nakluft Park:
The Namib-Naukluft Park is Namibia's largest nature reserve, about 50.000 kms² in size. It includes a 100 to 150 km broad belt of land that stretches along the coastline from the Swakkop valley in the north, towards Luederitz in the south. The Naukluft Mountains, with their rugged rocks and deeply- incised riverbeds, rise up to 1000 ms above the surrounding area, with the highest peak reaching 1949 m.The dunes of the Namib Desert have developed over many millions of years. It is thought that the vast quantities of sand were deposited into the Atlantic Ocean by the Orange River.

Swakkopmund and Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay is blessed with wide open spaces, scenic beauty, and unique marine and plant life. With its endless variety of sun-drenched sport and recreational adventures, your visit to the Skeleton Coast will be an unforgettable experience. Walvis Bay is well suited for an outdoor lifestyle, boasting sports, such as sand boarding, kiting, surfing, swimming, angling, sailing, golfing and many other sports.
Swakkopmund offers a wide variety of activities, from sand-boarding and quad biking to skydiving and camel riding

Windhoek is Namibia's capital and is the biggest city in the country. This attractive town lies at an altitude of 1650 metres in a beautiful valley, bordered by the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas Mountains in the south. Towards the west right to the Namib Coast, stretches the Khomas Highlands. Windhoek is a combination of modern city architectural styles, with that of the German colonial era.

Etosha National Park. Etosha, which means “place of dry water” is centred on a huge, flat calcrete depression (or pan) of about 5,000 kms². Etosha National Park is by far one of the most spectacular game parks in Africa, with at least 150 mammal species.

The Caprivi Strip is a narrow strip of land in the far northeast of Namibia, about 400 kms long. The abundance of water in the Caprivi sustains a large variety of animal and bird species, and especially numerous are the elephant, though not easily spotted through the dense vegetation. The wildlife is being protected in a couple of reserves some of these are Bwabwata, Mudumu, Lizauli and Mamili. There are no fences, so the animals can roam freely across the borders of the neighbouring countries of Botswana and Zambia. The Chobe National Park in Botswana, bordering the Caprivi in the south, is especially excellent for game viewing.
